How to prevent Spotted Lantern Fly damage
Learn to Identify
Spotted Lantern flies start development as small black insects with white dots across their body. Here’s an example:
They typically hatch in early May and slowly grow larger until June-July when they molt. After they molt, they form their distinctive red, black, and white coloring.
From this stage, they molt one more time and are officially adults. The adults are about two inches in length and are noticeable with their flashy red, black, and white coloring on their bodies and wings.
Adult spotted lantern flies can be found as early as late July and will typically last until November, or when the first heavy frost kills them.
