Fertilization Facts

Fertilizer is essential for maintaining a healthy lawn and assisting in protecting our natural resources. A well-fertilized lawn is not only healthier and greener, but helps to prevent weed infestation, disease and drought.

There are 3 main components to proper fertilization: nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Each of these nutrients plays an important role in proper plant nutrition.

  • Nitrogen is essential in ensuring plants are lush, maintain a deep green color and grow properly. Plants lacking nitrogen will often be pale green or yellow.
  • Phosphorus assists a plant in using and storing energy. A lack of growth or an abnormal green color are often signs that your grass or plants are lacking this nutrient.
  • Potassium helps plants to resist disease and strengthens the root system. This nutrient helps to promote growth in grass and plants. Stunted growth or a pale yellow color is a good indicator that your lawn is lacking potassium.

Annually, we perform a soil test which allows us to know what nutrients your soil is lacking to reach an optimal pH level.  An unbalanced pH can waste up to 70% of the existing nutrients.

Using phosphorus-free, organic-based products (bay friendly), we apply fertilizer at key points throughout the year to promote health, give your lawn the nutrients it needs, and maintain its strength through the seasons and accompanying weather conditions. Each lawn care package is carefully tailored to your lawn needs and will help give you the outdoor space you have always dreamed of.
